At United Zion Retirement Community, the safety, dignity, and well-being of our residents remain at the center of everything we do. In early 2026, our Personal Care team took an important step forward by implementing Helpany’s AI-powered care-intelligence platform throughout our Heritage Hills Personal Care, and the results have been remarkable.

Over a four-month period from January through April 2026, our community experienced:

  • 70% fewer falls compared to our normalized 2025 baseline
  • Zero falls recorded in April 2026 — the lowest monthly fall count in our community’s history
  • 1 in 3 care plans proactively adjusted to better reflect residents’ changing needs and risks

Creating a More Proactive Approach to Care

Falls continue to be one of the biggest challenges in senior living communities across the country. Traditionally, care teams often respond after an incident occurs. At United Zion, we wanted to focus on identifying risk earlier and intervening sooner.

To support this goal, we partnered with Helpany and implemented their radar-based technology, “PAUL,” in every Personal Care room. Installed on the ceiling, the device continuously monitors movement patterns including gait, sleep habits, bathroom frequency, and changes in activity levels without using cameras or microphones.

This allows our caregivers to receive alerts when subtle changes may indicate an increased risk for falls or other health concerns, giving staff the opportunity to intervene before an incident occurs.

A Historic Milestone for Our Community

The impact was immediate and continued to improve month after month. By March 2026, our Heritage Hills Personal Care had surpassed an 80% monthly reduction in falls. Then in April, our team achieved a milestone we are incredibly proud of: zero recorded falls for the entire month.

For the residents of our community, this means greater safety and confidence. For families, it provides additional peace of mind. And for our caregivers, it creates the ability to focus more proactively on resident wellness and individualized support.

As Miranda Troyer, Director of Personal Care at United Zion, shared:

“We always believed the key was identifying risk earlier while maintaining the dignity and privacy every resident deserves. But seeing the impact firsthand — both operationally and clinically — has been incredibly powerful.

Achieving zero falls in April 2026 was a historic milestone for our community and a moment our entire team is proud of. It reflected not only fewer incidents, but a meaningful shift in how we identify risk, prioritize care, and support residents proactively.

With Helpany’s AI-powered platform, our residents are safer, families have greater peace of mind, and our caregivers are able to work with more confidence, focus, and resilience every day.”

Better Insight Leads to Better Care

One of the most valuable outcomes of the program has been the ability to proactively reassess resident care needs. Through Helpany’s AI-powered care insights, our team identified that approximately one-third of resident care plans required realignment to better match evolving needs and support levels.

This has helped ensure residents receive the right care at the right time, improving both safety and quality of life.

National Media Recognition

The success of United Zion’s fall reduction initiative has also gained national attention. Our case study has recently been featured in several major media outlets, highlighting the innovative work happening within our Heritage Hills Personal Care.

Continuing the Conversation

The innovative work happening within our Personal Care neighborhoods has also extended beyond the case study. Our Director of Personal Care, Miranda Troyer, was recently featured on a podcast discussing the role of AI in senior living, proactive fall prevention, and how technology can support both caregivers and residents while maintaining dignity and privacy.
