There are so many great walking, running, hiking, and biking trails in Lancaster County, PA (where we’re located). With the current restrictions during the COVID-19 crisis, now is a great time to explore them. To start, make sure you have everything you need: water, snacks, mobile phone, and light layers (such as a windbreaker). We also recommend a mask, gloves and hand sanitizer.
Here are three easy trails to check out:
- Warwick-to-Ephrata Rail Trail – this trail has a smooth surface of asphalt and crush stone and extends 7.1 miles. You can catch this trail just a few minutes from United Zion Retirement Community. This trail is great for biking, running, and walking. There are even rideshare bikes available (just bring a helmet). This scenic trail goes through preserved farms and some light wooded areas. Need a nice flat portion of trail? Start at the Warwick Township Municipal Authority building and go towards Newport Rd. Looking for some other trails in Warwick Township? - Landis Wood Trails in Manheim Township – here you can choose between a hike in the woods on a dirt trail or start at Landis Valley Farm museum to catch the flat paved path to Landis Woods that’s part of the Manheim Township Bikeway.
- Chickies Rock – This trail is part of the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail between Marietta and Columbia. It features Chickies Rock, a towering quartzite rock formation; river views; and remnants of iron furnaces and the old canals. The path is paved and flat in Chickies Rock County Park.
