Michael Vargo has taken the reins of culinary services at United Zion. Vargo has his Associates Degree from the American Culinary Federation Chef Apprenticeship Program. With 25 years of experience in long-term care food management and over 10 years in restaurant management, Vargo with the support of ForeFront is bringing great ideas to the dining experiences at United Zion. Many might recognize his name from his 13 years as the director of banquets at Eden Resorts & Suites. CEO Sue Verdegem states, “I am excited to have Mike join United Zion. I believe his experience in senior living and in the hospitality industry is the right blend to continue United Zion’s modernization of its culinary experience for the residents of United Zion.”
The recent opening of Lexington will give Vargo a chance to put his spin on the menu and culinary service. He is passionate about working with seniors and loves sitting down to hear their experiences. He is starting up a Culinary Committee made up of residents to get feedback on the changes and continue to make improvements to menu, food choices and service.
Vargo loves the feel of community at United Zion. He professes, “From the first time, I walked in the main building I could sense the feeling of fellowship. The leadership team is great to work with and all of them are on the same track, to make things better for our residents.” Check out Vargo’s cooking demos on United Zion’s YouTube page and keep an eye out for future cooking demonstration events later this year.
